Software developers are one of the few industries in Denmark to emerge from the financial crisis and economic slowdown without major losses. The industry is also characterised by highly differentiated services. Indeed, it covers companies offering software for everything from bowling to financial management to design.
An analysis of financial reports for the 40 biggest companies in the industry, measured by volume of assets, shows that net turnover rose 15.5 percent from 2008/09 to 2010/11 for those companies that have published these figures. One reason why software developers have not been as badly hit by the crisis as other industries is that investing in software as well as IT systems generally has been used by many companies as an efficiency and cost-saving tool. According to data from DST, total corporate investment in software increased by almost 5 billion kroner in the period covered by this analysis, an increase of 11.9 percent.
