»Dear Colleagues and Friends, dear Saxonians,
Life is very much about the decisions and choices you make, and the consequences of those decisions. Sometimes a decision can be important, but also difficult and emotional. It can take a long time to make, because it requires careful consideration. Recently, I have made such a decision, such a choice and I would like to share that with you now.
I have decided to step down from being CEO at the end of 2015. Let me explain why.
I have been either vice CEO, sole CEO or co-CEO of Saxo Bank for twenty years now. I have thoroughly enjoyed every day of my work, but I believe now is the moment to prioritise my time a little differently, although I will of course always be available to Saxo Bank as Founder and shareholder going forward.
To step back to a different role has been a wish of mine for a considerable period, and one that Kim and I discussed also a while back, but after the Swiss Franc event, we decided to tough that one out together.
By now, I think we have dealt with that issue and also made further progress on the business strategy, our management team and the capital strength of Saxo Bank, so I have therefore decided to move ahead by the end of the year.
It is no secret that a potential goal for Saxo Bank is an IPO and both before and after a listing, having a stable management team is very important. I have never really been able to imagine myself as CEO of a public company (or a company where I was no longer a major shareholder for that matter), so also for that reason, I think it is the right thing to take this step in good time ahead of a possible IPO. On the first day of 2016, we get a strong new COO, who completes our management team, and I believe it is the right time for Kim, Steen and Søren, who will constitute our top executive management going forward, to define their division of responsibilities together with the rest of the executive management team.
I believe 2016 will be a great year for the bank, with a lot of new initiatives coming to fruition. Saxo Bank has exactly the right tools for the trading and investment needs of the future, and we have our strong brand and consistent values to build upon. We can see that from an ever increasing number of enquiries from both small and large financial institutions that are looking to improve their infrastructure and service offering to their clients.
Many of our direct competitors are struggling to meet the requirements of regulation, technology innovation, ever increasing client expectations and bigger capital needs, so also in the direct client space, we have a strong competitive position that I am sure will become more and more evident and rewarding in the coming years.
We have a very strong management team, with a lot of varied expertise and experience from many areas. With Kim's continued strong leadership as CEO, I have full confidence in this team's ability to lead the bank to new highs, and I wish the team the best of luck on the journey.

I will of course like to specially thank Kim for a fantastic partnership over the past 23 years, where we have worked extremely closely together as Founders, co-CEOs and partners. It has been a great journey, an incredible journey, and I wish Kim all the best in his future role as sole CEO.
Another important feature that makes me feel very comfortable making this move now, is the strength of the Board, and not least our Chairman, Lone Fønss Schrøder. I think the Board is very qualified and diverse, and I have therefore decided not to change anything there, meaning I will not be joining the Board, but only act as shareholder going forward, although I have reserved the right to join the Board at a later time, should I want to do so. I wish Lone and the rest of the Board the best of luck leading the bank in the future, and, when needed, I will of course be available for consultation on strategy, vision, challenges and opportunities.
Most of all, I would like to thank all of you, the Saxonians, for all your hard efforts and your enthusiasm and loyalty to our joint project. I have truly enjoyed working with you over the past twenty years, and I look forward with excitement to seeing how you will take the bank forward from here.
Saxo Bank is a very special animal in the financial sector, and the spirit and drive we have in this organisation is due to all the highly dedicated people that have chosen to spend their precious time and their careers with exactly us. That you make this choice every day, when there are so many different opportunities in the world, is something I will be forever grateful for. Thank you!
As Founder, I will still be available and pleased, upon request from the management, to help deal with important clients, partners or anywhere else I can add value with regarding to existing or new business development, but after December 31, I will no longer participate in the day-to-day management of the bank, so anything related to that should be directed to Kim and the management team.
You might be wondering about what I will do in the future, so let me tell you that I am certainly not about to retire. As stated, I will of course always be available for Saxo Bank, if required, and the bank will always be my first priority in business. But I also own smaller or bigger stakes in more than 10 other companies, and I would like to continue to support and invest more in smart people and exciting companies.
I would like to continue and expand my work for freedom in many different contexts. Freedom is under threat many places, yet more needed than ever to solve the many challenges we face, globally and locally.
Finally, I would like to have a little more time for my wife and family, and look a little better after my own health, as the endless travels around the world in recent years have meant that I simply spend to little time on the most essential things in life. I would like to change that now.
Over the last few months of 2015, I hope to meet many of you personally, to say thank you for our cooperation in person. I will not say goodbye, because I will still be around as a shareholder and Founder of the bank that I truly love. It has been an immense privilege to be part of this journey over so many years, and I am very proud of what we have achieved together. I am, however, convinced that even greater things await Saxo Bank in the future, we have everything we need to continue our exciting journey to new highs.
If we always keep our innovative spirit, live out our ambitions and adhere firmly to our values - Rationality, Independence, Integrity, Honesty, Justice, Productiveness and Pride - in other words, if we continue to be Saxonians, there is no limit to where Saxo Bank can go!
Dear friends, thank you so much and the very best of luck in the future!
